Thanks Omaha, Hello C-O, and Goodbye possum
2008-07-05
We the people of Beggartown want to extend a nice big thanks to all of our friends and family in Nebraska. We have had a great 2 weeks sharing our mission in the land of corn and steaks and the CWS. We are leading worship tomorrow morning at the First United Methodist Church of Fremont, NE (which will be the first time for us to play indoors in over a month and a half) and then high-tailing it to Colorado Springs, CO in our slow van for a quick midnight souncheck.

As we were heading home from the 4th of July festival in Auburn, NE last night I ran over a possum with the van...and then with the trailer. It didn't make it. I knew we should have bought a hovercraft...

Watch out TVLAND here we come...
2008-07-01
This has been a great week in Omaha. We almost missed our Friday night event at Prairie Lane. Would you believe an almost tornado and Nebraska hurricane caused us to play outside. It should be the other way around right? We lost power so had to be creative. It turned out to be a great night! We also had a chance to play a concert at Westside Church's new land for their 40th anniversary celebration. It was sweet! I love that church like I love...well I can't think of anything...but just think of something that you love a lot and compare that my love for Westside!

Right now we are about to be interviewed for my dad's new TV show "Journey Up" which will begin airing in the fall on CBS Saturday nights. He will be talking to us about this Beggartown journey that we have been on. We'll let you know when it airs and try to put the show up on our website in a few months, I'm guessing.

All the B-town peeps are in Nebraska for a couple of weeks. We are doing a few concerts and leading worship at several churches while we're here- and getting some quality time with our families, girlfriends (2 of the guys), and friends who live here. Make sure you come to any of these events here in Nebraska-

June 27th- Prairie Lane Church, Omaha, NE
June 28th- Westside Church's 40th Anniversary, Omaha, NE
July 4th- Fourth of July Festival, Auburn, NE
July 6th- First United Methodist Church, Fremont, NE

Plus, we have a new shirt design!!!

From my new hand held technological device
2008-06-17
I'm actually typing this right now on my iPod touch that I got yesterday for free. Carlie and I bought a MacBook two weeks a go because our dell has decided to not stay on- for the third time. Yesterday I saw the new buy a mac get a free iPod sale. I went in and asked if I could get the rebate although I bought it before the sale. They gave it to me! So as I sit on my couch surrounded with new technology I'm filled with awe and excitment like a little kid. I can't believe I can check my email and surf the web by looking at my palm! But...I used to be that excited by my dell. I'm reminded how silly a thing it is to put so much time energy and money into these temporal things. Don't get me wrong this is the coolest thing I've ever seen but what a waste it would be if this was my source of satisfaction.

May we live lives and spend our time effort money and most importantly our focus and attention on things that REALLY matter eternally. Give me a few months and I'll "need" a new iPod. But give me a vision of something bigger and a mission for something more eternal and I will be satisfied...

This took me 7 hours to type.

From Camp...
2008-06-11
We were able to break away from camp this week and head into town for some internet access. We have been leading worship last week and this week for the students at First Baptist Church of Cleveland, TN.

This has been a roller coaster of emotion. Last week- Middle School- was awesome. The students out sang us! This weeks High School camp began with a tragedy. On monday a few students from Cleveland came up to camp to visit for a few hours. On their way back home a few miles outside of camp they were in an accident and one of the students passed away. This has been a very difficult thing for all of us camp to deal with. Please pray for the Carver family as they begin life without their son. Please pray for God's purpose to shine through the darkness of this week.

On a lighter note- the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my 13 years of leading worship happened last night. The camp pastor, Freddy T, gave an incredible Gospel message. The band came up at the end and started to play "Jesus Paid it all" during the invitation. It was a very solemn moment. As we sang and as the Freddy T pleaded for lost souls to walk the aisle to come meet the Lord- I lost it. I started laughing uncontrollably. The reason- the camp dog started walking down the aisle. It stopped halfway as if to contemplate the decision. The dog finally gave in and walked to the altar and just stared at us with the eyes that said- "I'm ready, I want to know Jesus". I had to turn around. My whole body shook as I laughed for over 5 minutes- during the invitation. The most important night of camp and I could not stop laughing. But I can't complain- a dog will now go to heaven...
