The Book of Phelpians
2008-08-17
So I just started training for the 2012 Olympics. I'm not too sure what event quite yet though. I'm kind of leaning towards basketball. That would give me the best chance for Gold. I'll just lean on the skills of Lebron, Koby, and Kidd. Give me a few seconds on the court and then I'll take my medal.

I cannot possibly imagine the work that these olympians put into their sport. Think about Phelps. He has trained everyday...probably since the womb...and it has led to an amazing world-record setting 8 GOLD MEDALS in one olympics.

BUT...

WHAT NOW????

What if he stops and spends the rest of his life gloating on his 2008 accomplishments? What if all of his success is just a memory?

Proverbs 29:18 says, "Where there is no vision, the people perish."

This journey as a Christ follower has to always be one of forward motion. We have to "forget what is behind and press on toward the goal". May we never settle for today. May we never finish this journey before we're done.

Paul says in the book of Philippians,
"The very credentials these people are waving around as something special, I'm tearing up and throwing out with the trash—along with everything else I used to take credit for. And why? Because of Christ. Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant—dog dung. I've dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ and be embraced by him..."

10 Things We Learned On Our First Summer Tour
2008-08-13
Well, as I sit here reminiscing these last several months (actually I thought of this while showering) I am thinking upon the valuable lessons that we have learned. Our first summer tour has birthed many little wisdom babies that I feel any traveling musician or person in general should babysit for a bit. So here we go...

10. When traveling cross country for your CD release, don't put so much focus on the new CD that you forget the rest of the merchandise.

9. Possums do not cause van body damage. Just nail it!!

8. If you play guitar, don't forget picks, it is a real annoyance to everyone around you.

7. Those Starbucks energy drinks work amazing when driving through the night.

6. When the owner of the van you're driving already has a small amount of confidence in your driving, don't say "Yeah, I fell asleep for a few seconds last time."

5. If your amp is strugglin', always trust RossTronics.

4. Don't complain when being overtaken care of but underused.

3a. Camp food cooked by members of the church= a week of delicious goodness.

3b. Camp food cooked by camp staff= smelly lettuce.

2. When a dog walks the aisle during the invitation, don't laugh uncontrollably.

1. Always travel with with two transmissions.

In a Canyon and a van update.....
2008-08-07
Carlie and I are leading worship this week in Happy, TX for two CO and two TX student ministries. We are having a blast! The camp is in a canyon. Pretty sweet! We are wrapping up all of our summer events with this camp.

We need some prayer and some financial help. Last weekend the rest of the band (minus Carlie and I) we're heading back home to Louisville via Omaha. They made it as far as Kansas City before the transmission in our van blew. I guess thats what happens when you drive a van and a trailer 12,000 miles in just a few months. The guys rented a car and drove home. So I have spent the last week here in TX making phone calls to transmission mechanics and tow-truck drivers in KS trying to remedy our situation. Apparently- it is messed up pretty bad per the words of Jim at AAMCO who is also a Christian singer!

So as non-profits go, there is not much profit floating around here to pay for such an expense. Please pray that God will provide for this need and search your couches for any extra coins. This van has been the vehicle of God's provision and we need to heal her wounds.

Thank you for your prayers......

Summer Tour
2008-08-02
What a summer this has been! We have shared our mission in 6 states, 13 cities, countless days of events, and traveled 10,000 miles in just over two months. I can't remember what it even feels like to sleep in my own bed. But this journey has been worth it. God has brought us a long way as a ministry and as people. We have dealt with the joy of salvation and the grief of death. Thousands of dollars have been raised. Hundreds of songs have been sung. Many nights have been driven through. God has been faithful. I cannot believe this summer happened. Lord, we praise You alone for the work that You have done this summer!!!! We cannot thank You enough for every person that joined in our mission with us by buying a cd or shirt or for the souls that will be eternally changed because of it!

Here's a little slideshow of our first summer tour!!

I have not put up an update in the last 2 weeks. We have been busy to say the least- We have been at camps, been on the top of pikes peak, driven all night, been in 5 states, etc. I'll be posting some highlights and some pictures in the next few days... From Houston,

Thanks Omaha, Hello C-O, and Goodbye possum
2008-07-05
We the people of Beggartown want to extend a nice big thanks to all of our friends and family in Nebraska. We have had a great 2 weeks sharing our mission in the land of corn and steaks and the CWS. We are leading worship tomorrow morning at the First United Methodist Church of Fremont, NE (which will be the first time for us to play indoors in over a month and a half) and then high-tailing it to Colorado Springs, CO in our slow van for a quick midnight souncheck.

As we were heading home from the 4th of July festival in Auburn, NE last night I ran over a possum with the van...and then with the trailer. It didn't make it. I knew we should have bought a hovercraft...
