Beggartown exists as a mission to build God’s church by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, challenging and encouraging the body of Christ, and by giving to local and foreign missions through the expression and sale of different forms of media.
Currently, Beggartown is partnering with WEGO Ministries to build an orphanage in Uganda, Africa. We are donating all of the proceeds of the music and shirts that we sell to this great cause. This is the unique thing about the ministry of Beggartown. We are making music that spreads the gospel and giving the proceeds from that music to build a gospel sharing orphanage. Beggartown acts as a double-edged sword. It is two ways to fulfill the same purpose of building God's church.
Beggartown is not a band or a t-shirt company. It is not an organization that solely exists to build an orphanage. The music that we support, the shirts that we sell, and the ministries we help build are simply only means to fulfilling our mission but these things are not the goal in themselves. Beggartown is a mission to build God's church; using what we have to do what we can.
Song: Create
“Invent your own new song to him”
Psalm 33:3a
We are told here in the book of Psalms that we are to invent our own new song to God. The form of this song looks different for everyone. For some, it is music or art. For others, it is mowing lawns, growing a business, or cutting hair. The talents we have been given from the Lord vary but the purpose of them goes unchanged. We should always use what we have for God’s glory and eternal Kingdom. The people involved with Beggartown are not very good landscapers and you probably wouldn’t want us to cut your hair but we can make music, design t-shirts, and make this website. So that is what we are using as our “song” to the Lord.
Story: Invite
“If Abraham, by what he did for God, got God to approve him, he could certainly have taken credit for it. But the story we're given is a God-story, not an Abraham-story. What we read in Scripture is, "Abraham entered into what God was doing for him, and that was the turning point. He trusted God to set him right instead of trying to be right on his own."
Romans 4:2-4
It is the call of every believer to invite all people into a better story. This story is one that has been happening for a long time and where we are not the main character. We have all been given an invitation to know God and to live His story. Our lives are to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. This is the Gospel of Jesus and the life he lived. Beggartown seeks to be a voice speaking of Christ’s salvation and hope for lost souls.
Beggartown strives to make Christ known through every thing it creates. It will proactively invite people into a story of salvation where life is lived to the fullest. This happens through making music and media that has a central focus of Christ and speaks light and life into dark and hopeless places.
Mission: Give
"I tell you the truth; this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on."
Mark 12:43-44
We must not be a part of building our own homes that will soon be turned into empty fields and shopping malls. We are to be about building the Temple of God. Our possessions should be loosely held in our hands. It is in giving of ourselves that we find who we really are. Beggartown has a local and global passion for giving to those in need. Since the money tree that we planted has failed to yield a crop, Beggartown will be donating proceeds from the sale music and clothing to missions.
Beggartown has partnered with WEGO ministries to help in the building of AIDS clinics, schools, hospices, and orphanages throughout the world. Currently, Beggartown and WEGO are working together to build a gospel-sharing orphanage in Uganda, Africa.
